Well,

W[ill this also solve the vertical/horizontal display issue in font-end add and list view?
--> Even when specifying several columns and 1 row for dispalying checkboxes images, it only works in new entry/edit view; the list view and the ad detail still display 1 column on the front end.
What about the tooltips for images?
--> Although checkboxes with images fields is a powerful concept, for the website visitor it might prove useful to see a tooltip when mousing over each image.
