Hi all

I am looking for a classified ads system for a project. I've looked around and there are various products available. At the moment, there are two products in the running - JoomProd and OxyClassifieds. Looking at reviews, OxyClassifieds has dire support. The actual product looks good though and I'm running the demo on their server and it seems to be good. Haven't given it a real good thrashing though.

JoomProd is another option and the support of a user forum is a bonus. However, there doesn't seem to be any decent documentation. I have tried to install the free product to test it but without much luck.

I use 1and1 as a hosting provider. Just been looking around and they do have a Joomla installation install button within the control panel. Just found that today but can't test it as I'm at work. Previously I downloaded Joomla into a folder and that seemed to work. However, from there, how do I then install JoomProd? Is there some simple way of doing it or do I download that and then copy it across to the same folder that Joomla is installed into?

If someone can advise with some step by step instructions or, point me to some documentation that gives me installation instructions, I would be very grateful.

Many thanks in anticipation.

OK, looks like I've got a bit further.

Within my hosting company's control panel there was a Joomla installer. This allowed me to install Joomla and assign it to the domain name that I have chosen. Type that domain into my browser and I get my own Joomla page.

I then downloaded the Joomprod zip file onto my computer. The file was called com_adsmanager_3.1.4.zip

Now, using my FTP package I uploaded this zip file into the newly created Joomla directory within my hosting company into the 'tmp' folder.

Then signed into my Joomla page as administrator - so http://www. myfunkynewpage.co.uk/administrator and chose Extensions>manage. From here chose the "install from folder" option - hit "install" and got the message "component installed correctly" - or something like that.

So, my next question now is, how do I activate this?

Do I use Extensions>Modules and then select one/all of the modules - four have been added: mod_adsmanager_ads; mod_adsmanager_menu; mod_adsmanager_searc; mod_adsmanager_table. Do I 'publish' these or something else?

If anyone can give some guidance it would be appreciated.

If the installation was correct you should see "component installed correctly" but also the adsmanager logo etc.. on the page. otherwise you didn't install correctly.
Normally if you want to use install from directory you should create a tmp/adsmanager directory and unzip the file in it. and provide tmp/adsmanager as directory.

You can also directly install via ZIP file install of manually upload in tmp

Thank you for your reply. I think that my issue is that I don't know enough about Joomla! I've purchased a book about Joomla! and will read through that and then try the installation and what not again. If that doesn't work then I'll be back on asking questions.

Many thanks

Thank you for the offer of assistance.

I've un-installed and reinstalled Joomla! many times using the auto install facility on my hosting company (1and1). Initially I wasn't able to upload the package file via Joomla! as I kept getting a message stating that upload_max_filesize was too small. Anyhow, worked out which php.ini I needed to amend (in the administrator directory). Sorted that and have now successfully uploaded admanager.

Is there something else that I need to do though? When I load my website it is still the basic Joomla! website.

I can send to you the URL to my site as well as an admin sign on if needed but I'd rather have some instructions that I can follow myself, if possible.

Many thanks in advance.
